Hi Bob, so glad you enjoyed reading and thanks for letting me know. I'm glad you asked because it was on my mind, too. I found a reference on Saigoneer.com that in 1975 500 VN Dong was worth $1.00, so our little gift was worth about twenty cents. I suppose if we'd wanted to spend it we probably could have gotten a nice bit of candy. (I'm glad we didn't though!) At today's exchange rate 100 VN Dong is worth less than a half penny! ($.004)
Quote from article: On September 22, 1975, the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam organized launched a new national currency, called "Bank of Vietnam Money" (also known as liberation money) at the rate of 1 dong of the new currency for 500 dong of the old one and equivalent to US$1. https://saigoneer.com/old-saigon/old-saigon-categories/2931-a-look-at-vietnamese-currency-through-history
How much was 100 dong worth then? How about now? Thanks ! I enjoyed reading this!
